Content Guidelines
Squp works because people are honest and generous about what they suggest watching, listening to, and reading. These guidelines keep it that way.
The basics
Be honest
Share your real take. Ratings and comments are most useful when they're genuine.
Be kind
Disagreeing about a show is fine. Attacking the person who posted about it isn't.
Tag mindfully
Only tag a friend if it's relevant to them — tagging is a way to point someone to something, not to spam them.
Report, don't retaliate
If someone posts something that breaks these guidelines, report it rather than responding in kind.
What's not allowed
- Harassment or hate speech. Attacks based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic.
- Threats or incitement to violence.
- Spam. Repetitive posts, link-stuffing, or content that isn't a genuine reaction to something you watched, heard, or read.
- Impersonation. Pretending to be someone else, including another real person or a public figure.
- Sexually explicit content.
- Illegal content of any kind, including anything that violates someone else's copyright.
- Sharing others' private information without their consent.
Comments and replies
Squp's comment system automatically screens for some common patterns — link-stuffing, ALL CAPS shouting, keyboard-mashing, and a basic list of flagged words — and limits how quickly one person can post comments in a row. These checks catch obvious spam but aren't a substitute for good judgment; please still follow the spirit of these guidelines even when a check wouldn't catch something.
Reporting content
Every comment has a Report option. Once a comment collects enough reports, it's automatically hidden pending review. If you see a post or comment that concerns you, please report it rather than leaving it unaddressed.
What happens if these guidelines aren't followed
Depending on the severity and frequency, we may remove content, temporarily restrict an account's ability to post or comment, or suspend or terminate an account entirely.
